Alpha

          The Alpha Course

The winter Alpha Course runs on Tuesday evenings until March 20th.  The sessions begin at 7pm with a supper in the Hall.   Supper over, we go downstairs to the Lounge to watch a presentation and then go into discussion groups.

The topic changes each week and together they form a lively introduction to the basics of Christianity.  The first session was “Who is Jesus” and we go on to ask “Why did Jesus die,” and “How can we have faith?” as well as sessions on prayer and the Bible.

This is not an ‘Anglican’ course even though this one takes place at St Matthias’. Alpha has been experienced by millions of people right across the world and this set of Christian basics is the same in Roman Catholic, Orthodox and other contexts.

There are no costs – even the Course Manual comes free.  However, guests are invited to contribute as they are able toward the cost of supper.

Next Term we are planning to run “Coffee, Toast and ‘Alpha Express’” at 9.15 on Monday mornings.   This is a shortened version of the Alpha course in the church for people who can’t get out in the evenings.   Watch this space for more details or phone the church office to register your interest on 01803 214175.
