The St Matthias’ Alpha Course |
![]() |
I would really like to Know what God and Christianity are all about.
An Alpha Course is not a bit like school or college – there are no tests
and there are no Course fees. There is no 'hard-sell' involved and absolutely
no obligation to do anything, sign up to anything or join anything. Nobody will call, or bother you and if you
don’t enjoy the first session, you just don’t attend the next.
Each of the 10 sessions begins with a sit-down supper in the St
Matthias’ Centre at 7pm. One of our local ‘rules' is that we even discourage
discussion of the Christian faith or Alpha, over supper!
After supper we watch a presentation on key topics such as "Why did Jesus die? Or, "How does
God guide us?". These
presentations lead into small group discussions and many people feel that these
are the most rewarding part of the evenings. People can express opinions, ask
questions and bounce ideas around in a relaxed environment. Some choose to talk
a lot and some say very little through the whole course. It really does not
matter.
People come to Alpha evenings for all
sorts of reasons. Some have wanted to find out whether God exists or whether
there is any meaning to life. Some were worried about death. And by the way, it
does not matter whether you have been to church in the past – this is all about
the basics of the Christian faith.
Be assured, nobody will be embarrassed and everyone will enjoy their
evenings. What is more, many people have reported that their lives have been
changed for the better through the Alpha Course.
